February 2007

Thank you for your continued interest in the life and ministry of Global Evangelism Ministries (GEM). It is because of your prayerful and financial support that we are able to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.

In the coming days we will have teams working in Central Europe and West Africa. Please note our change in schedule:

The Czech Republic
Due to some logistical problems we were forced to move our next trip into the Czech Republic to February 14 – 28, 2007. The primary purpose of this project will be to confirm the details for our summer “platform” ministry in Domazlice.

During the summer of 2007 we will conduct a “basketball clinic ” in the town’s sports arena where we hope to build strong relationships with the youth of the area and introduce them to the basic principles of Jesus Christ. We are in need of some individuals who will assist us in this meaningful ministry project. If you have experience in coaching, teaching, or playing basketball you can certainly be of help to us.

For the coordinating of this clinic, we are thankful that God raised up a leader for this task in the person of Coach Todd Burden of Statesville Christian Academy. Todd brings a great deal of experience and integrity to us and we are indeed fortunate to have him on board with us. His heartbeat is evangelism and we are confident that his leadership will bring Kingdom work inside the Czech Republic.

In addition to the work in February and June we are planning an intensive PrayerWalking project for April 26 – May 9, 2007. Those who have participated in our previous PrayerWalking projects have indicated that this was a most rewarding and meaningful endeavor.

The basic format for this project will be to literally cover every inch of the town of Domazlice as we “pray on-site with insight.”

Participants will be assigned a geographic area around the town and seek the wisdom of God as they pray for the specific needs of the city. “You will be amazed at what you learn” said one participant of last year’s PrayerWalking team. “It’s like God opens the windows of heaven and shows you what He sees” said another.

If you are interested in joining us on this endeavor, please contact us immediately to learn more. The size of the team will be limited to 10 persons on a first-come basis.

Ghana, West Africa

As mentioned above, we did rearrange our overseas ministry schedule for the first quarter of this year. The nation of Ghana is celebrating its 50th year as an independent nation this year and thus a great deal of student participation in the national celebrations will occur.

Once our director in Ghana realized this constraint he wisely asked for the project to be re-scheduled to March 14 – 30, 2007. While this adjustment caused us a few days of headaches, we fully realize that God indeed has some exciting things in store for this new project.

Not only do these new dates enable us to complete the work necessary in the Czech Republic but it gives us more time to raise financial support for the project including the funding for the bibles needed in Ghana.

You will remember that we are striving to provide a New Testament for each person in Ghana who indicates their decision to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

We have located a publisher in Ghana who will make these bibles available to us at a cost of 25 cents per bible. In other words, your gift of $100 will provide a case of 400 bibles.

This incredible price makes our dream closer to a reality each day. It is important to remember that on each typical project to Ghana we see approximately 15,000 indicated, first-time decisions for Christ! This means that we have a need of $3,750 per project (just for Bibles) in Ghana. We plan two projects to Ghana each year!

The project to Ghana in March is expected to be into a deep, remote area of the country. Rev. Lartey has told us that we will encounter many difficulties and uncomfortable living conditions. I trust you will remember to be in earnest prayer for this project.

In addition to the cost of bibles the project will cost us around $8,000 for travel, lodging, ground transportation, set-up, and workers support. If you have not already begun to support GEM on a regular basis, we trust you will begin to seek God about how you should be involved in this and other ongoing projects around the world.

Straight from my heart ...

It is nearly impossible to believe that we are entering our sixth year of full-time ministry through Global Evangelism Ministries. Little did I realize in June of 2001 all that God would be doing through this organization now.

When I stop and think that we have been fortunate enough to preach in 1,111 different ministry venues in six different countries to an audience of over 459,000 people my heart is humbled and amazed. On top of this we have recorded over 252,000 indicated first-time decisions for Christ. This is truly a God-sized ministry and to HIM alone belongs all the praise!

In addition to the wonderful people we have serving alongside us around the world — Sammy Lartey in Ghana, George Surtea in Romania, Pavel Favl in the Czech Republic, and others — I am especially thankful for our national team of Mark Chase and David West. Other special partners include Richard and Lynda Gregory, who have joined us on so many projects, Jeff Andler (JAMin) and volunteers too numerous to mention. These choice servants of the Lord make our task a genuine joy.

Thank you also, to every person who prays for us and supports us with financial contributions. You are all an equal part in our work.

January 2007

The Apostle Paul said it best. "... forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Phil 3:13b-14 NASB

2006 is ALL behind us. Whatever the last year held for you - the good, the bad, the ugly - matters not. There is nothing to be accomplished by holding on to it.

For GEM it was an incredible year. We saw a great year of ministry with over 30,000 individuals in four countries during 143 separate venues indicate their personal response to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! We witnessed more people praying for us and supporting us with their financial gifts than ever before in our history. It was a great year, but now we too must "forget what lies behind."

As we enter 2007 I want to encourage you to "press on toward the goal for the prize ..." Already our ministry is looking forward to all that God has in mind for us. In the immediate future we have ministry projects planned in the Czech Republic and Ghana. Think about this:

IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
We were first invited to begin to develop a ministry strategy in the heart of Europe by the International Mission Board of the SBC in 2005. During our four trips into the country we have been building relationships and trust with the people. Our prayer-walking project last year was the key to everything that is being accomplished. This past December we were able to begin to cement the plans for our first platform ministry that will be a summer basketball camp in the town of Domazlice. So what are the next steps?

  • In January I will be going back to Domazlice to finalize the plans for the summer project. We will meet with the town officials, sports director, pastor and others in an effort to again build relationships and secure the arena for the camp.
  • In April of this year we are planning on taking another prayer walking team into the country to again saturate the town in prayer. If you are interested in joining us on this project please contact me immediately.
  • In July of this year we plan on taking a group of about 20 into the country to facilitate this effort. It is our prayer that the seeds of the Gospel will be sown and a harvest will be made ready. We are looking for individuals to join us on this project. We need basketball players and coaches who are serious about using this sport for evangelism. Please contact me ASAP to talk more about this.

IN GHANA
The work in Ghana, West Africa continues to overwhelm us! Since October of 2001 we have witnessed over 165,000 people indicate "first-time" decisions for Christ. This staggering number humbles us as we think about the incredible number of people who are still lost without Christ. Without a doubt our work is looking forward. So what's coming up in Ghana?

  • In February we will make our first venture of the New Year into a most remote and desolate region of the country. As of the time of this writing we have three preachers scheduled to go to Ghana for a two-week project. Please remember to pray for the project and the needed finances. Each project costs are around $8,000, which does not include the cost of Bibles.
  1. Bibles continue to be a huge need for us on each project into Ghana. As I have shared with you before, we have located a supplier in Africa who is making New Testaments available to us at an incredible price of 100 Bibles for $25 USD.

  2. We anticipate needing around 15,000 bibles for this and each future project which means that we are trusting God for an additional $3,750 for bibles every six-months.
  • In October we will make the second of our two trips into Ghana. As of today we do not have the logistics in hand about this project, but we know it will be to an important region of the country.

Never forget that the fields in Ghana are white unto harvest. There has never been a more important time to invest into the ministry of GEM for the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Your faithful financial investments into the work of the Kingdom are making an eternal impact on the lives of thousands of people in this and other nations of the world.

GEM is blessed to have friends like you who understand the importance of sharing the Gospel with the people of the world and thus giving them the opportunity to respond to the message of God's love, grace, forgiveness, and salvation. Thank you so very much!

STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART
I have never been more excited to be involved in the work of the Gospel. As we watch the world seemingly change each day, my heart is thrilled to know

"All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers, and the flower falls off, but the word of the Lord abides forever. "

-- 1 Peter 1:24 NASB

Now and forever, this shall be the message of my heart and the heart of Global Evangelism Ministries. We have no word of our own, but we have been entrusted with the Word of God and must take this message unto the ends of the earth.

Thank you so very much for joining us in our task. We can't stop now ... we can't look back ... let's keep "... forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Phil 3:13b-14 NASB

Christmas 2006

Thank you very much for your support of Global Evangelism Ministries during 2006. You have enabled us to present the gospel in 143 separate ministry venues where we have witnessed 29,191 individuals indicate their "first-time decision" for Christ! For these people this Christmas holds a new and personal meaning.

As you celebrate the Christmas season I trust you will remember the real meaning of the seaon and reflect the blessings of God in your life. As your families gather together and exchange gifts, enjoy food, and all your other traditions, please pause to consider the millions of people around the world who are still wandering in a dark and lost world.

It is our prayer that this Christmas will be your most blessed ever and that 2007 will be your most productive year ever in service to the King of Kings!

December 2006

My dear friend,

As you read this, by God’s grace our team of 5 is ministering in two distinct projects in Eastern Europe. My friend, J.C. Underwood has joined me for our work in the Czech Republic, while GEM Associate Evangelist, Mark Chase and board members Richard and Lynda Gregory are in Romania leading in Revival services in churches in the Arad Baptist Association. I trust you will remember to lift us up before the Lord as we seek to be obedient to His perfect will.

It is hard to believe that another year is drawing to a close. 2006 has been a very good year for Global Evangelism Ministries as we have been able to witness 29,179 individuals indicate their decisions to follow Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. For this and all things we are extremely thankful.

As we now enter the Advent and Christmas season I hope you will remember to celebrate the reason for the season. Again this year there will be secular pressure to abstain from mentioning the name of Christ in public places. Let me encourage you to let your genuine faith shine forth as you go through the Christmas season. Don’t get defensive when the greeters at your favorite shopping place refuse to say Merry Christmas. Rather, with gentle humility whisper a prayer for them as you smile and simply reply, “Merry Christmas to you.”

A WORD ABOUT THE FUTURE

While I am very pleased with what God allowed Global Evangelism Ministries to accomplish during 2006, I am even more excited about the ministry opportunities for next year. As of this writing we already have ministry projects planned for Ghana and the Czech Republic. In addition to this we are looking at invitations from India, Nigeria, and Pakistan where we have been asked to come and conduct intensive evangelistic projects. Please pray with us about these new fields of harvest.

STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART

Let me use this space to express our gratitude for your faithful financial support of GEM during 2006. Your generous gifts have enabled us to conduct 134 different ministry venues in 4 different countries. As we enter this last month of the year we are trusting God for $25,000 in offerings which will enable us to end the year in a positive position and prepared for a very busy 2007.

I am asking you to consider your most generous donation to GEM this month. In addition to cash, we are able to accept various kinds of other gifts. Please visit the “Financial Support” page to learn more about this.

November 2007

In days of instability and uncertainty we often wonder, “Is anything good going on in the world?” To this I respond, YES … by all means YES!!!

I have just returned from Ghana, West Africa where we witnessed the power of God in awesome and overwhelming ways. While in Ghana we presented the gospel message in 55 different ministry venues, planted three churches, and witnessed 14,956 “indicated first-time decisions” for Christ! “To God be the glory, great things He has done!”

I am thankful for each person who joined us through prayer and financial support on this most recent project. None of our ministry is possible apart from your faithful support. As I have reminded you often, YOU ARE AN EQUAL PARTNER IN THIS MINISTRY.

Joining me on this project was my dear friend, Jeff Andler who is a wonderful co-laborer in our ministry in Africa. Our time together is always rewarding and I thank God for this brother in Christ.

During this project we became increasingly aware of a pressing need in Ghana. Every time we share the gospel and people respond in faith, there is an immediate need for the scriptures being placed in the hands of the new converts. We have long desired to give each new believer a copy of God’s Word, but finances have always prevented us from doing so. Now however, by God’s marvelous grace, we have found a local printer in Ghana who has made us an incredible offer. We can purchase a “Bible-sized” New Testament for approximately $.25 (one quarter). This means that we could have presented a New Testament to each new convert in Ghana for a total cost of $3,739.

We have made a decision to seek to meet this need for Bibles in all of our projects from this point forward. Based on our historical data for Ghana, we need to raise an additional $8,000 annually for bibles. While I am certain that someone reading this is able to underwrite this entire annual need, I believe everyone reading this is able to help with this need in a personal way. Listen to what our Ghana National Director, Rev. Sammy Lartey writes:

“The greatest need for these newly converted is growth by feeding on the Word of God. (1 Peter 1:2) My humble appeal to all the beloved family members of GEM is to contribute a ¼ Dollar for a bible-sized New Testament. Your ¼ Dollar will go a long way to help the growth of a new convert for establishment and maturity for reproduction. (Matthew 28:19-20). May our good Lord bless you to give your quarter toward getting a New Testament for a village New Convert growth and reproduction. Stay blessed … Rev. Sammy Lartey” (read the entire appeal)

Can you hear his heart in this? Can you sense his urgency? Can you be used of God to help

September PrayerLetter

Dear friend,

It seems impossible that five years have passed since the tragedy of 911! On that day we witnessed the most horrific attack on American soil in history. We cringed at the cruel reality of such hatred and destruction in our country. For some people that day caused them to seemingly re-evaluate their personal relationships – with family, co-workers … and God.

Sadly though, the renewed faith of many waned and disappeared during the following weeks. Some reports indicated that while church attendance increased for a few weeks this trend was short-lived. Often tragedy serves as a temporary boost to the spiritual thoughts of individuals but rarely does it cause them to change their mind about their true spiritual condition.

On this fifth anniversary of September 11, I hope you will pause to think about all that is really happening in the world.

  • 150,000 people die each day. Most of these people enter eternity without Jesus Christ!
  • 3 out of every 10 people in the world have little or no access to the Gospel message!
  • The hatred towards the things of Christ is increasing and intensifying.

These three things continue to motivate Global Evangelism Ministries to carry the message of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. I become more aware each day of this absolute truth:

The world desperately needs Jesus!

I know I sound like a broken record, saying this same thing in nearly every publication, but this simple statement drives and motives everything we do!

There is certainly no other answer to the questions of life. Even in the face of extremism and radical Islamic terrorism, Jesus is the answer. No matter how much someone hates, the love of Jesus is superior. No matter how extreme the messages of others, the cross of Jesus Christ is sufficient. As you think and consider the attitudes of those who would endeavor to harm us remember, these are people for whom Jesus died. However lost or depraved someone might be, Jesus has the power to save them. This is our hope and task – “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel!”

As you pray for and financially support Global Evangelism Ministries, you are enabling us to share the love of Jesus with people who have been ignored or forgotten by most of the world. We will continue to go where others will not go in our efforts to reach them for Jesus. Thank you so much for your continued interest and support of our efforts and ministry.

UPCOMING MINISTRY PROJECTS:

In just a few days our ministry team will be traveling to Ghana, West Africa for our second ministry project there this year. Ghana National Director, Rev. Sammy Lartey, and his team have spent countless hours in preparation for our arrival. He has coordinated school assembly programs, visits with village chiefs, and the two nightly film crusades. Although we have no way of knowing how many people will attend or respond to the different ministry venues, history tells us that we should be able to present the Gospel to over 25,000 people during our days in Ghana.
  • The cost for this project stands at $8,000. This cost reflects all our expenses including travel, lodging, meals, preparation, project expenses, and ground transportation. It is very important that you make your most generous gift to GEM now to cover these costs. Historically, for every dollar spent in Ghana we have seen a first-time indicated decision made. This is a very good return on your investment. Remember, you are an equal partner in our task of global evangelism!
  • Please remember to pray for our team in Ghana. We will leave the US on September 21st and return on October 4th. Pray for Roy Mason, Mark Chase, and Jeff Andler. Pray for our health, safety, and anointing during our days of ministry.
Our work in the Czech Republic continues to move forward! We have at least one additional project planned in the Czech this year. Our coordinator, Craig Furlough is working diligently at assembling our next PrayerWalking teams as well as our Sports Evangelism teams (for next summer.)

We are currently considering an invitation to return to Romania for a Winter Project. While we thought that our ministry in this country was on a bit of hiatus, circumstances seem to be indicating that our work there is far from complete.

STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART:

These are indeed exciting days in our life and ministry. Sometimes it seems like an impossible task, but God has always proven sufficient. I want you to know how much we all appreciate your love, support, phone calls, cards, and emails. These expressions of support encourage us greatly as we face the daily difficulties of ministry.

I trust you will continue to remember us in your prayers and time alone with the Father. He alone is our provision and strength. Nothing that we do matters apart from His presence.

Mary joins me in sending our love for you. Until Jesus comes, I remain

YOURS, IN THE FULFILLING OF THE GREAT COMMISSION,

Your Personal Invitation

Isaiah 55: 1-7

What is your mental image of God? How do you picture Him? Do you see Him high and lifted up in the Temple as described in Isaiah 6?

“In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.”

Do you see Him as the King and Judge of the Universe? For some reason, His holiness and splendor drive us to an ethereal and reverent concept.

This morning I hope for you to see God in different and unusual place. Isaiah 55 paints a portrait of God standing in the market place sellinghis wares. Against the canvas of a middle eastern marketplace the divine artist uses the brushstrokes of the written word to reveal God offering an indescribable gift to all who will receive. Those reading these phrases could easily identify with the merchant pleading with the buyer to sample and trust his product. The marketplace was a festive and carnival-like place. Children would be running and playing. Day laborers gathered to be hired, and the leading citizens exchanging greetings with one another. It was the place to see and be seen. It was the grandest of meeting places. It is into this arena that God walks, crying out to all who will hear his Personal Invitation.

While this is the word picture Isaiah is painting, his reference is to something far more significant. It has nothing to do with physical wants and satisfaction, rather it deals with the most fundamental need of every human being. This prophet of God, under the direct leadership of the Holy Spirit, moves from his description of the suffering servant in chapter 53 to the universal invitation of God to a lost and hopeless world here in his 55th chapter. As it was an invitation in the latter half of the 8th century BC so is it an invitation in the first decade of the 21st century AD. As it was an invitation to the people of Judah so is it an invitation to the people of the local church this morning. It is your personal invitation! Look with me and see …

The People of the Invitation

It is an invitation to those who are Dry. Isa 55:1 says “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters …” The most basic human need is that of water. There is nothing so important as water is to the human body. Research has shown that a person can go without food for 100 days, but will die within a week without water! It is essential to the human body which is comprised of nearly 90% water. It is the very substance of our existence.

On a recent trip into West Africa, I came to understand this need more personally. The water in our region of the country “was not flowing” (to quote the locals). The wells were dry and the region was parched. Before setting out on our journey we stopped to fill all our available containers with water – not suitable for drinking, but for cooking, washing, and cleaning. The pastor took great care to see that the containers will supplied, sealed, and secure. Nothing could be worse than spillage.

As we began our journey we purchased two additional containers for drinking water – each one capable of holding approximately 25 gallons of water. The containers were ready, but the problem was there was no water to be found in the place where we made our purchase. We drove very slowly looking for a place to fill our empty vessels. We stopped at houses, petrol stations, and the like – all to no avail. Finally we found the home of a “brother” who had water in his well. What a feeling of gratitude we had for the supply to meet our need.

God is offering here a spiritual answer to our most basic human need. Is your life dry today? Are you willing to admit that your soul is parched and perishing? Listen to what Jesus said to the woman at the well;

"Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." -- John 4:13-15.

This morning what are you trying to quench your thirst with the things of the world. Nothing but Jesus can satisfy the thirst of your soul.

This is an invitation to those who are Destitute. Verse one goes on to say, “and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. “ In this modern society, especially in this place, we have little concept of what poverty really means. We live in the wealthiest nation in the world and in one of the wealthiest places in North Carolina. Most of us know nothing of destitution! We have cars, boats, bikes, airplanes and helicopters. We have land and we have houses – filled with every imaginable convenience. But in God’s economy we are completely destitute!

One of the greatest problems in reaching people for Christ, especially in America, is helping them realize this absolute poverty before God. We have nothing with which to bargain. There is no partiality with God. We cannot buy God’s favor, we cannot barter for His gift. We are penniless and hopeless before a Holy and Just God. But, God’s free gift of salvation is available to everyone.

The invitation is to those who are Deceived. Look again at Isaiah 55, verse 2, “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.” We are living in a world of deception. Satan has whispered in the ears of so many that you don’t need God. He asserts that God is only for weaklings and cowards. Some of you this morning have tried to find peace and happiness in all the wrong places. You have looked to your family, your business, your possessions, your passions, and your abilities. But, when you get really honest with yourself you know that you have no contentment in your life and no hope for your future. Why? Because when Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6) you refused to apply the truth to your life. I urge you, don’t be deceived any longer. Turn to Jesus today!

The invitation is to those who are Depraved. Look down to verses 6- 7. “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” This is a thought that we shun away from today – depraved. We don’t want someone to stand and remind us about our sin. But what does the word of God say? The Bible says that we have a problem and that problem is sin. Paul boldly proclaims,

"There is none righteous, not even one”

-- Rom 3:10

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

-- Rom 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God

is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

-- Rom 6:23.

These are not my words, but the Word of God. I have seen people grow angry and hostile toward these words, but your anger should not directed towards me, but to God.

This is God’s assessment of your spiritual condition. Yes, we are all sinners, it’s not your fault, but it is your problem! Why? Because God, through the Apostle John declares,

Nothing impure will ever enter it [heaven], nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. -- Rev. 21:27

Beloved, there is a great gulf -- a gap – a chasm, between God and man, and nothing we do can bridge that gulf. This morning, if you are trusting in your religion, your works, your philosophy, or your morality, you stand as a good, religious, philosophical, and moral man separated from God by your sinfulness. But there is good news. God alone, has made a provision for our sin.

Jesus is God’s only provision for our sin. Listen again to His sweet words:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, and whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. -- John 3: 16

"I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly." -- John 10:10

"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." --John 3:36

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." -- John 14:6

This is the invitation of God to you this morning. It is simple and clear. But the invitation given is not the gift received. While it is true that God’s call is universal and personal, your response to the invitation is crucial. You must meet certain conditions.

The Participation of the Invitation

You must be receptive. Read again that second verse of chapter 55. “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.”

One of the mistakes of people today is that they seem to believe that God rewards sincerity and belief. This is simply not the case. I hear people talk about their personal and private faith. But what does this mean? Does it mean that we believe in God? That’s good, but it’s not enough. The Bible says that even the demons believe:

“You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.” -- James 2:19

I have never really met a person who does not believe in God. They may call Him by some other name, but there is a personal belief in God. These are the people Paul described in Romans 1:20-22;

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools …

Belief alone does not result in eternal life.

In order to receive eternal life, you must be willing to shut out all the other voices! We are living in a day when so many voices are crying out for our attention. In such a pluralistic society we must know that God alone is truth. We are living in the days Paul spoke of in his letter to young Timothy:

“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” – 2 Tim 4: 3-5.

What is the provision for our sin? Listen carefully to 1 Cor 15:3-4

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures … he was buried …

he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

In order for the invitation of God’s salvation to come your life, you must be receptive.

He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. -- John 1:11-13 nkjv

Not only this, but …You must be Responsive. Listen again to verse 6 of Isaiah 55. “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” You must be willing to respond and receive the invitation of God’s gift of salvation. How do we do this? Listen to the word of God:

“if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed."
-- Rom 10:9-11

This is God’s invitation to you. These are His directions. They are non-negotiable. They are forever settled in Heaven. Are you willing to respond this morning?” I want you to know there is a price to be paid for this response. Notice finally,

You must be Repentant. Isa 55:7 says “Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” Very simply put, you must have a change of mind about your present spiritual condition. You must agree with God.

Several years ago, Henry Blackaby wrote an incredibly simple book entitled, Experiencing God. Some of you read this. The single simple statement that Henry penned was this. You can’t go with God and stay where you are. WOW! How clear and succinct is this statement. This is the message to you this morning.

Is your life full and complete this morning? Are you were you want to be spiritually? I don’t know most of you, but I know something about you. This is what I know. One day you are going to die. And when you die, you are either going to Heaven or you are going to Hell. It’s that simple. God has made a way for you to go to heaven, but you must make the choice. Here’s how Isaiah concludes this chapter:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. -- Isa 55:8-11

I want you to admit that your actions, attitudes, belief, and behavior has led you to the place you find yourself today. Your present spiritual condition is the result of your actions. Maybe everything is good in your life. Perhaps you are content and satisfied with where you are. But perhaps you are not. Hear this again. You are where you are today because of what you’ve been doing. Your life and your actions have brought you to the place you are today. God has a better plan and a better way. His invitation to you is clear.

“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. --I John 1: 8-9

This is not my promise, it is God’s. His invitation to you is just this simple. Realize, repent, and receive. How will you respond this morning?

Something Old ... But NOTHING New!

Solomon wrote, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” --Eccl 1:9 –NIV Certainly this is seen clearly in the midst of the most recent military conflict involving Israel.

According to an Associated Press report released on July 27, 2006 Al Qaeda is urging all Muslims to join in the battle against Israel. Here are a few direct quotes from the report:

CAIRO, Egypt — Al Qaeda's No. 2 leader issued a worldwide call in a new videotape released Thursday for Muslims to rise up in a holy war against Israel and join the fighting in Lebanon and Gaza until Islam reigns from "Spain to Iraq."

In the message broadcast by Al-Jazeera television, Ayman al-Zawahiri, second in command to Usama bin Laden, said that Al Qaeda now views "all the world as a battlefield open in front of us."

The Egyptian-born physician said that the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah and Palestinian militants would not be ended with "cease-fires or agreements." "It is a Jihad for the sake of God and will last until (our) religion prevails ... from Spain to Iraq," al-Zawahiri said. "We will attack everywhere." Spain was controlled by Arab Muslims until they were driven from power at the turn of the 16th century.
[1]

This aggressive attitude of the Muslim extremists should come as no surprise to thoughtful Christians. There has always been an absolute hatred for the people of God. It may be seen today as an “Arab v. Israel war” but rest assured that the real battle is that of Evil against God.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2006 it was reported that an ancient copy of the Book of Psalms was unearthed in Ireland.

DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) -- Irish archaeologists Tuesday heralded the discovery of an ancient book of psalms by a construction worker while driving the shovel of his backhoe into a bog.
The approximately 20-page book has been dated to the years 800-1000. Trinity College manuscripts expert Bernard Meehan said it was the first discovery of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries.
"This is really a miracle find," said Pat Wallace, director of the National Museum of Ireland, which has the book stored in refrigeration. Researchers will conduct years of painstaking analysis before putting the book on public display.
The book was found open to a page describing, in Latin script, Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of other nations' attempts to wipe out the name of Israel.
[2]

Consider again the Word of God. Psalm 83 reads …

O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-- the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot.

Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God."

Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD. May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD--that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

While there is widespread disagreement about the exact date or context of this Psalm, it is generally agreed that the Psalm has both a historical and prophetical note. A leading Bible scholar points out some have related the Psalm to events in the days of Jeroboam II while others have related it to the days of Maccabees or even the days of good King Jehoshaphat. John Phillips notes “Probably events in the days of Jehoshaphat most closely approximate the situation envisioned in the psalm.

Throughout time the Jews have faced the possibility of extermination. Think about the times past where Israel was assaulted:

In 1458b.c. Amenhotep I, as the new pharaoh of Egypt attempted history’s first effort to exterminate the Jews when he ordered all newborn Hebrew males be tossed into the Nile.

In 72b.c. the Assyrians culminated a three-year siege on the northern tribes of Israel. They sacked Samaria, depopulated the country and marched their Hebrew captives into exile and oblivion.

In 701b.c. the Assyrian monarch Sennacherib turned his attention on the Jews and uprooted them.

In 586b.c Nebuchadnezzar demolished Jerusalem, burned the temple, slaughtered Jews wholesale, and deported the remainder to Babylon.

In 473B.C Haman persuaded Xerxes of Persia that it would be to his benefit to rid the world of Jews.

In 169b.c Antiochus Epiphanes captured Jerusalem and put the Jews to the sword. He defiled their temple, issued idolatrous laws and did his best to replace Jewish culture and religion with Hellenism.

In A.D.70 Jerusalem fell to Rome. During that war, over a million Jews perished by the sword, starvation, crucifixion, internal strife, and disease. The Romans glutted the slave markets and arenas of the world with captured Jews.

In 135 the Roman, Hadrian made it a capital offense for anyone to practice Judaism.

In 339 Constantius II made it illegal for Jews to intermarry with Christians.

In 438 Emperor Theodosius II banned Jews for all high office in the Roman world.

In 531 Justinian resurrected and enforced the prohibitions and made it illegal for Jews to appear as witnesses against Christians in court.

In 630 the Byzantine emperor Heraclius connived at the massacre of Jews who had re-infiltrated Palestine.
In 722 Emperor Leo III ordered all Jews to become Christians.

In 1066 the Muslim rulers of Granada in Spain massacred four thousand Jews in a single day.

In 1149 the Berbers, who controlled the greater part of Spain, gave Spanish Jews the usual choice: convert to Islam or get out.

In 1215 the fourth Lateran council of the Roman Catholic Church ordered all Jews to wear a badge to distinguish them from other people.

In 1371 Jews were massacred in Castile under the rule of Henry II.

In 1391 they were massacred in Seville.

In 1479 Ferdinand and Isabella united Spain and cleared the country of Moors. The Catholic Church introduced the Inquisition to root out heretics, especially Jews.

In 1492, by Edict or Expulsion, 300,000 Jews were tossed out of Spain to set out on a dreadful journey to nowhere.

In 1506 many Spanish Jews, who had sought refuge in Portugal, were mobbed and massacred.

In 1531 the Inquisition was imported into Portugal and she became another Spain.

In 1648 hundreds of thousands of Jews in Poland were massacred by the Cossacks.

In 1660 the Jews of Europe were accused of spreading the Black Death and were therefore slaughtered in country after country by the panic stricken populace.

And so it went. Ever since the Jewish people in Pilate’s judgment hall pulled down on their heads the dreadful curse “His blood be on us and on our children,” they have wandered from land to land, from one graveyard to the next.[3]

Perhaps the greatest evidence of an attempt to rid the world of the Jews was the diabolical death camps of Adolph Hitler and his Nazi empire. While there is no verifiable record of absolute certainty, most scholars agree that no fewer than 5.9 million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust.

And so you see, there has always been a hated for Israel. Time and time again (and the above list is certainly in no way complete) there has been an effort to rid the world of the Jewish people.

There can be but one rational reason for the hatred of the Jews. It is crystal clear in scripture that God has always had one specific plan for the world and that plan is Jesus Christ the savior of the World! The plan is first mentioned to us in Genesis 3:15 when God said to the fallen Adam in Eden

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

This is the promise of Jesus, God’s only son, sent into the world as the payment for and victory over Satan and our sin. The plan became even more specific when God said to Abraham, in Genesis 12: 1-3

The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

The plan of God, revealed in the Garden, now becomes even clearer as we understand that the Promised One would come into this world through a particular people – the seed of Abram (later his name was changed to Abraham[4].)

God’s promise crystallizes even more when God tells Abram how vast will be his descendants.

After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir." Then the word of the LORD came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir." He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness. --Gen 15:1-6

Over the next 10 years, Abram waited on God’s promise but saw no children come to him and his wife. Therefore, in an effort to fulfill God’s promise to himself, Abraham, with the full blessing of his wife, took her maid and together they conceived a son – Ishmael. While this self-effort seemed the only logical solution for Abraham (if he was to realize God’s promise of a son), it was wrong. You see Ishmael was the fruit of unbelief! Listen to the words of the angel of the Lord to the mother of Ishmael:

"You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." -- Gen 16:11-12

Ishmael, the son of the flesh, born to Hagar, the maid of Abram’s wife is the originator of the Arab peoples. This act of disobedience by Abram was the beginning of the conflict between the Arabs and the Jews. You see, God’s plan of redemption for the sins of the world was not to be realized through the line of Ishmael, but through Isaac, the son of promise.

Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year." -- Gen 17:19-21

From the moment of Abram’s sin of unbelief until now there has been a war raging between the two sons – Ishmael, the father of the Arabs and Isaac, the father of the Jews. The covenant promises were confirmed to Isaac and later to Jacob through whom the Nation of Israel gets its name.
[5]

It is through the nation of Israel Jesus was born. When John first saw Jesus he identified him as the Messiah:
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,

"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel." -- John 1:29-31

And even though Israel, as a people, rejected Jesus as the Son of God, He is the redeemer of the World, as promised by God.

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. -- John 1:9-14

Scripture teaches us that Satan’s plan has always been to offer a “solution” which is contrary to the plan of God. At every turn Satan has been, and will be defeated because Jesus defeated him on the cross. In today’s world we are seeing a last ditch effort of the old serpent to destroy and discredit the nation of Israel, through whom the Messiah came, even through rejected by the Jews. We are closing in on the closing days of human history. Think of this:

The Jews have defied thousands of years of persecution, endemic and epidemic anti-Semitism, bloodbaths, and holocausts. They have defied, too, the trend toward assimilation and absorption into other nations. They have retained their racial purity, outlived the nations that persecuted them, and returned in our times to the land of their fathers.

Two kinds of Jews have been repatriated by the newborn state of Israel. From the lands of the West have come the enlightened, educated, sophisticated Jews – the lawyers, the doctors, the professors, in industrialists. From the lands of the East have come deeply religious, orthodox Jews, passionately devoted to building Zion into an exclusive religious state. Both kinds will see a promised messiah in the antichrist. Secular Jews will hail him because he will offer them a peace treaty that will guarantee their frontiers against attack. Religious Jews will embrace him because he will permit them to rebuild their temple under his protection … The fact that Israel is back in the land adds a new urgency to our conviction; end-time events can now take their ultimate shape.
[6]

The world is quickly aligning itself toward the final cosmic clash. The stage is being set. The world will be realigned. The British and French empires are gone. New nations have sprung up and have been enrolled inn the United Nations. Russia, who thought itself to be the world leader, crept into the Middle East and made plans for a future assault on Israel. The old Roman Empire is reforming through the Union of European nations who are making their way toward a centralized federal government. All of these things are shadows of what is about to happen.

The next event in Biblical history is the rapture of the Church, where the true believers will be removed from the world and join the grandstands of heaven to witness the Returning of Jesus Christ to the Mount of Olives and destroy the enemies of the cross – Satan, his antichrist, and all who have rejected the gift of grace for ever and ever.

So what about you? Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? Do you have the certainty that you will spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus? What does the Bible say about this?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. -- John 3:16-18

The plan of God has always been for you to be in eternal relationship with Him, but your sin has prevented it. Today, if you will accept the fact that you can never be good enough to go to heaven, acknowledge the fact that Jesus is the only way to God, affirm that through the blood of Jesus your sins can be forgiven, and ask Him to come into your heart, HE WILL.

If you have never asked Jesus into your heart, will you, right now pray, in faith, to Jesus? Say something like this:

Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I realize that I have failed you and broken your laws. I know that, because of my sin, I cannot come to heaven. But Father, I am sorry for my sins and I believe that Jesus, your only son, died on the cross and paid the penalty for my sins. Today, I ask you to please forgive me of my sins and give me eternal life. I want you to take control of my life and guide me every day. Jesus, right now, I acknowledge you as Lord and from this day forward I want to live for you.

August PrayerLetter

Dear friend,
I know you are saddened to watch or read news reports about the events transpiring in and around Israel. While none of us fully understand the circumstances surrounding the current conflict, we can readily agree...
What the World needs now … is JESUS!

Now, as perhaps never before we are seeing an absolute disdain for the things of God. The present calls for Israel to abandon her land and position reveals to us the absolute hatred for the people of God. While it is true that most of Israel is spiritually blind, we must never forget that we, the genuine followers of Jesus Christ, have a scriptural mandate to remain a “friend to Israel.” I trust you are keeping up with the current state of Israel through our website: www.GEMonline.org where we are providing regular updates with prayer requests from our friends in Israel through our “PRAYER” page on the website.

The secular media would have us believe that Israel is completely at fault and to blame in the current state of affairs in the Middle East, but the truth is that it is time for us to admit that our world finds itself at war – A World War.

Recently, there has been a great deal of discussion about the war on Terrorism; I think it is imperative that we understand that the war is really against God and the people of God. The fundamental Islam extremists have a stated purpose of ridding the world of all “infidels” which is understood to mean, primarily all Christians and Jews. There is now, as perhaps never before, a blatant attack on the things of Jehovah God, and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
While I do not presume to know the timetable of God, it appears that we are nearing the end of this age. It seems that we are racing toward Armageddon which means, from my understanding of scripture that the rapture of the Church is very close at hand. Regardless of your theological position, we can all agree that the mandate for global evangelism must be our priority.
The only message for a lost and dying world is JESUS! Thank you for helping Global Evangelism Ministries fulfill our mission to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.” Your gracious gifts enable us to go where others refuse to go and bring the life-changing message of Jesus Christ to people who desperately need God’s love and grace. Without your partnership with us none of our work would be possible.

MINISTRY UPDATES:THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Our recent PrayerWalking project to the CR was a tremendous success! We were able to effectively cover the entire city of Domazlice on foot and pray over every imaginable thing. The entire team was moved with the need for ministry in the Czech Republic. Please feel free to visit our website and read the complete report on this recent project. he continuing ministry in the CR will require a great deal of financial participation from our friends and supporters. We have two additional projects planned for this year and a very full slate of ministry anticipated in 2007. Our financial needs for the CR for the remainder of 2006 stand at $8,000. Please put a note on your check if you want your gifts used in the Czech Republic.
GHANA, WEST AFRICA
Our next project to Ghana is scheduled for September – October. Ministry Director Sammy Lartey tells us about the hard work he has done in preparation for the events. We again have school ministries and crusade evangelism planned for each day, where three teams will venture out near the border with Togo to share the message of salvation to all who will believe. This upcoming project in Ghana will cost $8,000. This includes all project costs as well as air and ground transportation for us. We do not have the money in hand to cover these costs so we desperately need your help.
A WORD ABOUT FINANCES:
As you know Global Evangelism Ministries takes a pretty low profile as it relates to finances. We have always operated on the belief that God has commissioned our ministry and therefore He alone is our provision. With this said, we are fully aware that our support comes from individuals who fully believe in what we are doing. In other words, our team increases as you partner with us in the ministry. While you may not physically join us on the foreign field, your participation through prayer and financial support make you an equal part of our team. The summer months always take a heavy toll on our financial receipts, but God is faithful. We are entering an extremely vital time of year when ministry expenditures increase drastically with the full load of ministry events. Would you pause right now and ask our Heavenly Father to bless this ministry? Would you ask him to move on the hearts of those individuals and businesses that have been so faithful in the past to give abundantly to the work that is before us? We are trusting God for $25,000 this month which will enable us to go into the fall schedule with sufficient provision. I am counting on you!

YOURS, IN THE FULFILLING OF THE GREAT COMMISSION,
ROY MASON

JULY 2006

So Many People ... So little Time!
Dr. Roy Mason

The work of Global Evangelism Ministries (GEM) is a remarkable, yet tremendous, task! We have earnestly endeavored to meet our vision statement with passion and compassion. We continue to strive toward our part in fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to His church. His words ring clearly in our hearts and minds as we travel the globe in our efforts of presenting the Gospel to those who have yet to publicly respond to the message of grace.

The scope of our ministry continues to increase. Throughout this newsletter you will “catch a glimpse” of what God is doing through us around the world. Hardly a week goes by when we do not receive yet another invitation to a new place for ministry. Most of these requests go unfilled because of two things — resources and personnel. Always remember, while the gospel is free it is not cheap! Each new ministry request requires somewhere around $10,000 to meet. However, each request represents more people who need to hear the Gospel! Your continued financial and prayerful support of GEM makes it possible for us to meet our current ministry opportunities and begin to meet new ones.

In an ever-changing world of relativism and secularization we must meet the challenge of sharing the Gospel with everyone. While the Church is busy in this task we must individually accept the challenge of intentional evangelism.

Only eternity will reveal the true results of our labors for Christ. In the meantime, we will continue to use all our energy, time, personnel, and resources to share the timeless message of Jesus Christ with the lost world. Once again let us express our deepest appreciation to each person who takes seriously the command of Christ to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.” You are certainly an equal partner in our task.

Kingdom Growth Today
Are we building the Kingdom or just an empire?

There seems to be a new trend in today’s “evangelical circle.” The overwhelming concern of too many churches, denominational agencies, and Para-church groups appears to be the building of their own empires. Most of this is the result of well-meaning people getting caught up in an attitude of competition and approval.

In this modern era of mega churches and ministries, many have chosen to put the overwhelming bulk of their time and resources into those things that will “benefit” their local church more than the building of the Kingdom of God. While there is nothing wrong with splendid campuses or spectacular buildings, when this is done at the expense of true “Kingdom work” it is in error.

Many churches today are participating in global missions, but for the majority of churches the preponderance of these “mission trips” are designed to meet the felt needs of the participants. One well-known pastor puts it this way, “Our people want to go to a foreign land and build buildings or do some other philanthropic enterprise that will make them feel good about themselves. I have a very difficult time in getting people excited about going to a distant land to simply share the gospel with the lost.” This same sad truth can be seen in the ministries of the local church in their own communities. Churches seem to do those things that will cause the people around them to “take notice” and speak well of the church in order to gain acceptance in the community. While soup kitchens, clothes closets, and shelters are good (and Christian) endeavors, if they are not done with evangelism as their goal they are nothing more than secular enterprises.

Scripture clearly states, “Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out NOT ONLY for his own interests but also for the interest of others.” (Phil. 2:3-4) This mandate applies to individuals, churches, denominations and their agencies. It is vital that we get back to the business of Kingdom building in all we do.

The War on Terror
An interview with Col. David West

GEM Executive Vice-President, Col. David West is currently serving as the Command Chaplain, United States Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT).

In this role, David has direct involvement with our military personnel serving in the difficult “hot spots” around the world in the war on terrorism. “We are seeing God do some truly incredible things in the lives of so many people serving in troubled areas,” said David in a recent interview. “It humbles me that God has allowed me to serve in such a sensitive position,” he continued. Please remember to pray for David and those he serves in our military. “For everything, there is a season” and although we may never understand the “whys” of the terrorists and those who hate America, we do know that God is bigger than anything else.

Stepping Out in FAITH in the Czech Republic
Dr. Craig D. Furlough

Many have asked “How do I know what God wants me to do?” Most of the time they are not really asking that question as much as they are asking, “Am I hearing God correctly?” Through years in the pastorate I have observed that most Christians know the answer to the first question but the second one tends to trip them up. It is where the rubber meets the road or where faith grows feet. It is the place where followers of Christ can no longer be simply hearers of the Word but must become doers.

Global Evangelism Ministries is at a point where faith must grow arms as well as legs. The challenge came to GEM from God via the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention: “Start a work in the Western Czech Republic where absolutely none now exist.” What a huge, God sized task! This challenge is so great that it is going to fail. Fail, that is, if God is not in the center of it. Make no mistake, GEM knows what God wants and has heard Him correctly.

How then will this work get done? GEM has no pool of untapped funds to pull from and the International Mission Board is offering no funds. There are no firm contacts in the country to help ease us in. There are hundreds of questions and precious few answers but God is not going to wait while GEM gets everything under its control. This work, which fits into a larger work to be done in Eastern Europe, belongs to God. We are along for the ride and what a great ride it is going to be and has been already.

It goes without saying that what God has planned in the Czech will lead to lost people coming to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is a certainty that what waits around the next bend or page on the calendar will be unexpected but will lead Global Evangelism Ministries closer to God so that others will come to know His saving power. There is no question that many of you reading this will know what God has for you to do. Now you will have to put feet to your faith.

Over the next months and years, GEM will need you more than ever. Your prayers are critical to this God sized task. Your participation in going to the Czech and helping to send others will be needed if God is to be glorified. Your consistent financial gifts will be blessed and used to reach deeper into Eastern Europe. A garden once rich in God’s word is now a spiritual wasteland. The spread of the Gospel message is so very important to the reclamation of His lost children and He has picked us to be involved.

As much as GEM needs you, you need GEM, too. Our being on the front line enables you to be part of this ministry. Global Evangelism Ministries is one of the tools God is using to help accomplish what He wants you to do. It is faith being exercised and it leads to a stronger kingdom family that is pleasing to God. You hear God correctly, now will you follow where He leads?

The Battle for Souls Remains Intense

GEM's on-going work in Ghana has been fruitful but demanding. While growing in experience, our teams ministering there meet with new challenges as we go further into "untouched" regions. The recent trip in May was a prime example as Senior Field Associate Mark Chase and ministry partner Jeff Andler worked with our Ghana National Director Sammy Lartey in the eastern portion of that country. Spiritual warfare is pervasive. GEM's task, however, is to overcome these deterrents with the Gospel in a bold, yet loving way. “In this land of spiritism and idolatry, we present the Gospel in such a way that people understand that truly having Christ in your heart means you cannot serve two masters," Chase says. With strong, traditional animist practices, many in Ghana are in bondage to spiritual darkness. Only the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ can drive it away! And many in fact are open to hearing the Word. "They are so hungry for truth," Mark says, "and there is such a great need for the Word of God." To places where the Gospel is seldom preached or completely unheard, GEM goes with your prayers and gifts. Your support of this ministry enables local pastors to equip new believers in Ghana as well as help fund projects to new areas where God's Word will bear fruit. Go-send-pray! One or more of these we all can do. Partner with GEM with the promise of obeying the Great Commission for Ghana. Scripture reminds us: "And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." (Hebrews 13:16) "Please be in prayer for this ministry as we continue to share Christ with a world that is in darkness," Mark exclaims. The next ministry project into Ghana is scheduled for the Fall of this year. If you have interest in participating in this work please contact Mark by email, Mchase@gemonline.org

The Spreading of the Gospel
Mark R. Chase

One of the most amazing privileges of Global Evangelism Ministries is that of placing the scripture into the hands of those individuals who have indicated their new faith in Jesus Christ. It never ceases to humble us to witness people who have not had personal access to the Word of God eagerly receive and read the new gift which has been opened to them.

The simple gift of a gospel tract or scripture portion proves to be a great blessing to the new believer. The relatively inexpensive investment into these materials have an immediate impact on the person. Scripture portions are the result of designated gifts from friends of our ministry.

“It is the aim of GEM to place a Bible into the hands of each person who indicates their decision for Christ,” said Dr. Roy Mason, GEM President. “While we are able to purchase Bibles on site for around $2 each, the sheer numbers needed for each project is overwhelming” he continued. “Just one ministry project in Africa will cost us an additional $25,000, which would mean bibles for 12-13,000 people,” added Rev. Jeff Andler, JAMin President who just returned from Ghana.

People living in the United States or other “Christian” countries do not understand the truth that people living elsewhere in the world do not have the same easy access to the scripture as do we. Therefore it is imperative that we find a way to share the scripture with them. This is the most fundamental need for new believers. Remember, scripture itself says, “The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart … there is no creature hidden from His sight …” (Heb. 4: 12-13a)

The spreading of the Gospel comes through the sharing of the Word.

Straight From My Heart
Dr. Roy D. Mason, Jr.

We are living in a day of extreme secularism. Never before has there been such a seeming determination to remove any reference to the Christian faith. From the courthouse to the classroom there is an effort to systematically remove the name of JESUS from our vocabulary and culture. There is an anti-Christian bias running wild in our world.

While this is difficult for many of us to swallow, it should come as no surprise to those of us who hold dear the Word of God. Scripture makes it clear that these days should be expected and anticipated. The Word of God says, “But realize this, that in the last days, difficult times will come … holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power … avoid such men as these.” (2 Tim. 3: 1,5 NASB). The recent hubbub over the fictional novel (and movie), “The DaVinci Code,” is nothing less than Satan’s weak attack on Christianity. The arrogant author, Dan Brown, is simply a pawn in the hands of the enemy in trying to discredit the claims of Christ. When the best minds of science and sociology failed to win their battles for the souls of men, Satan turned to the entertainment community to continue his feeble attack. This too will fail!

Jesus is the “author and finisher of faith” (Heb. 12:2). No claims against Him will change the fact that He is the “only begotten Son” of God (John 3:16) sent into the world to save sinners. Nothing changes the truth that Jesus alone is “the way , and the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6). Scripture makes it crystal clear, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” (1 Tim. 2:5). Nothing changes this fact … not works of literature, scientific experiments, political nor philosophical debate.

Does this mean that we are to do nothing? God forbid! We are to diligently present the Gospel at every opportunity. We are to use our time, energy, and resources in making the message of Jesus available and abundant to every person we meet. We must share the Gospel with our friends, our family, our co-workers, and our colleagues. We must use every opportunity to allow Christ to live through us in a powerful way . Now is the time for us to share Christ with conviction, compassion, and commitment. Nothing must stop us. Now is the time.

The Da Vinci Code DECEPTION

There is a great deal of discussion about the book and the movie, "The Da Vinci Code" around the world today. For the genuine believer, NOW is the time to speak the truth about Jesus Christ.

Dr. Erwin Lutzer, Senior Pastor of The Moody Church, Chicago, IL has written an excellent book which states, "In his best-selling novel, The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown blurs the lines between history and fiction, leaving readers wondering, Could this really be true? By distorting the truth, Brown implies that Christianity is based on a lie."

In The Da Vinci Decption, Dr. Lutzer examines the "facts" behind the fiction and provides clear and authoritative answers to the confusion surrounding the life of Jesus and the Christian faith. Whether or not you have read Brown's novel, you will gain a new understanding of the issues presented and the historical basis of early Christianity. Click here to read more from his book.
